Hyderabad: Congress MLA and Government Whip Aadi Srinivas has come down heavily on BRS leaders for misleading the people over unpaid dues to village sarpanches in Telangana.
In a release here on Monday, the Congress MLA accused the BRS leaders of shedding “crocodile tears” for the sarpanches now when they were out of power.
He highlighted how sarpanches were neglected and driven to despair during the BRS government, with some even resorting to suicide due to financial pressures.
“Despite numerous sarpanches tragically taking their own lives, former minister Harish Rao never once visited or consoled their families,” Aadi Srinivas remarked.
Continuing his critique, Vemulawada MLA further accused the KCR-led government of financially burdening village sarpanches under the pretext of development projects.
“The previous BRS government forced sarpanches to spend lakhs on village development projects like Raitu Vedikas and crematoriums, essentially holding them hostage by these financial commitments,” he said.
The Congress MLA alleged that the BRS government also suspended sarpanches who couldn’t complete these projects on time, pushing them into deep financial and emotional distress. Additionally, he claimed that funds allocated by the Central Finance Commission were diverted, crippling the panchayats financially and destabilising rural governance.
“Former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao's administration damaged the panchayats financially, all for his personal gain,” he added.
Aadi Srinivas also stated that the Congress government is actively addressing the “sins” of the KCR administration, including clearing over Rs40,000 crore in unpaid dues left by the previous government.
The Congress MLA asserted that BRS leader Harish Rao owes an apology to the sarpanches, stating, “Only after he apologises to the village sarpanches, he should think about speaking on the matter of unpaid dues."
