MP Laxman to visit watershed village
Hyderabad: Dr K Laxman, BJP Rajya Sabha MP will visit Gottigaripalli a watershed village in Kohir Mandal, Zaheerabad (old Medak) on January 29. He will be accompanied by Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, eminent environmentalist Prof K Purushotham Reddy, public policy expert Dr D Narasimha Reddy, Director, Research of Samskruthi Foundation Dr M Amaranadha Reddy, top level expert on Four Water Concept with WAPCOS, Mohd Afsar and others.
Eminent Irrigation expert T Hanumanth Rao's four waters concept for watershed Development is a low cost option for water security that takes care of both Irrigation and Drinking Water needs. Implemented initially in some villages in Telangana at a cost of Rs 5,000 per acre in 2001-2002, it has been providing water for three crops in a year. This low-cost option has been ignored in favour of major irrigation projects at a cost of Rs 7 to 8 lakh per acre.
Gottigaripalli village in Kohir Mandal, Zaheerabad (old Medak) District is one such village which got media attention. What was ignored in Telangana, was implemented very extensively in Rajasthan by the BJP Governament between 2014-2018. It has brought about a total transformation in water sector.
Since water becomes available in the entire watershed, the landless poor and weaker sections, who own or were allotted land, woefully rainfed, it enabled them to grow three crops resulting in their uplift, achieving social justice in the real sense
The Trust has been making efforts for generation of public awareness and advocacy about Hanumanth Rao's Technology for Watershed Development.
