Hyderabad: In a significant development for Taiwan-India economic relations, the Allegiance Group has signed a cooperation agreement with the Telangana government to establish the first International Technology and Industrial Park (I.T.I.P) within the state's "Future City" initiative.
This collaboration successfully attracted Taiwanese foreign direct investments (FDIs), with 11 companies signing MOUs for investment during the ceremony. The event was witnessed by Ho Chun-hsin, President of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in India (TCCIN), senior officials from the Government of Telangana, and Manharsinh Yadav, Director General of the India Taipei Association (ITA), marking a significant milestone in the growing presence of Taiwanese FDIs in India.
This collaboration is expected to inject Rs 2,000 crore ($231.2 million) into the regional economy, potentially creating 100,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The first group of companies signing the MOUs includes firms specialising in electronics, solar energy, and advanced manufacturing. Their participation reflects a strong commitment to investment and collaboration, further demonstrating the increasing interest of Taiwanese businesses in India's expanding market.
One of the participating business leaders noted that geopolitical factors are playing a crucial role in shaping investment strategies, with companies proactively diversifying their operations to mitigate risks. Establishing production and sales bases in India is seen as a strategic move to ensure long-term business stability.
The initiative offers transitioning Taiwanese investors unique advantages such as permanent land ownership rights, a significant departure from the leasehold arrangements commonly available in other regions.
This strategic framework is further enhanced by substantial state-level incentives, including subsidies for construction, logistics, and workforce training, all tailored specifically to support Taiwanese businesses.
The park's integration within the Telangana’s flagship Future City project ensures access to cutting-edge infrastructure and connectivity, positioning it as an ideal destination for Taiwanese investments amidst shifting global dynamic.
Simon Lee, chairman of Allegiance Group, highlighted Telangana's high-tech industries and skilled workforce, aiming to merge foreign manufacturing advantages with India's labor pool to create a thriving business economy for all.
At the same time, the Telangana government and the Allegiance Group will collaborate to develop the "Formosa Town" project, which will be the first Taiwanese ecological community in India. This initiative aims to create a sense of belonging for expatriates working in the state, providing them with a welcoming environment that they can consider their second home.
The strategic value of Telangana's ITIP initiative transcends geopolitical considerations, underscoring the vital role Taiwanese businesses play in India's development. The State government views this partnership as a catalyst for transformative investment opportunities, paving the way for a prosperous future that benefits both local and international stakeholders.
