In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made it possible for electors to cast their votes even without possessing a physical copy of their voter ID card. This flexibility aims to ensure that eligible voters are not disenfranchised due to the absence of their Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC).
Before heading to the polling booth, it's essential for voters to verify that their names are correctly enlisted in the Election Commission’s voter list. If not, they should take steps to register online or offline to ensure their eligibility to vote.
For those whose names are on the voter list but do not possess a voter ID card, there's a list of alternate ID proofs or documents that can be used to cast a vote:
PAN (Permanent Account Number) card
Aadhaar card
Driving licence
Passport
Passbook issued by a bank or post office, containing a photograph
Pension document for retired personnel
Service ID card issued by a state government, central government, PSU (public sector undertaking), including the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) job card
A health insurance smart card issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment
These alternate ID proofs or documents can be presented at the time of voting in place of the voter ID card. This initiative aims to facilitate a smoother and more inclusive voting process for all eligible citizens.
