Why Liquor Sales Are Banned in Mumbai for 4 Days This Week
Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Mumbai will observe four dry days to ensure a peaceful voting process. The Election Commission has implemented the ban to minimize disruptions and prevent external influences, like alcohol, during the electoral period.
Dry Day Schedule:
November 18: Sales banned after 6 pm.
November 19: Full dry day.
November 20: Prohibition continues throughout election day until 6 pm.
November 23: Partial ban until 6 pm on results day.
Polling for all 288 Assembly constituencies will occur on November 20, with results declared on November 23. This election marks a significant face-off between the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances. Over 9.7 crore voters are expected to participate.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared November 20 a public holiday, encouraging maximum voter turnout. Employers have been instructed to ensure employees can vote without penalties or salary deductions.
Before these election-related dry days, Mumbai also observed a dry day on November 12 for Kartik Ekadashi, a religious event.
