India is all set to observe 2024 general elections, an important event for democracy. The voting will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 4. Having a voter ID, or e-EPIC, is essential to participate in the process.

The Election Commission of India states that having your name on the official voter list is crucial. The rule applies even to individuals without a voter ID card to cast their vote.

Steps to vote without a voter ID card in elections

1. You can vote if your name is on the official voter list, as per ECI guidelines

2. Ensure your name is on the list by filling out and submitting Form 6 to the Electoral Registration Officer

3. Once registered, you have the right to vote, even without a physical voter ID card

Here's how to add your name to the voter list and vote without a voter ID card.

1. Check if you meet the voter eligibility criteria - You must be 18 years of age by January 1st of the year when the voter list is being updated.

2. Provide a recent passport-sized photo and proof of age, like a birth certificate.

3. Submit proof of address, which could be your bank passbook, aadhaar card, or letters from recognized organisations.

4. Fill out Form 6 for general voters and Form 6A for overseas voters. Ensure accuracy in providing details and upload required documents for online registration.

5. Check your enrollment status on the Electoral Search website to confirm registration.

6. Register offline by filling out Form 6, available for free from Electoral Registration Officers.

7. Submit your application along with documents either in person to the Electoral Registration Officer, by post, or to the Booth Level Officer in your area.
