US Authorities Detain Gangster Anmol Bishnoi
Gangster Anmol Bishnoi is currently in detention at Pottawattamie County Jail in Iowa, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday. The FBI is working to confirm his identity using voice samples or DNA testing.
The FBI confirmed his arrival in the U.S. earlier this month and is in contact with Indian authorities to discuss next steps, including his possible deportation. According to TOI, Anmol had fled India under the fake name "Bhanu" using forged documents.
Anmol, who is wanted on an Interpol red notice, is linked to several major cases, including the recent murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique and shooting outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's Mumbai home. A Facebook account under Anmol's name took responsibility for the shooting, and an audio recording has been found showing his connection to the incident, with him talking to Vicky Gupta, one of the shooters.
He is also accused of helping the attackers who killed singer Sidhu Moosewala on May 29, 2022. Anmol left India in April using fake documents, before the murder took place. He later settled in California with his associates, including Goldy Brar.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) offered a reward of Rs 10 lakh for his capture in October, related to Siddiqui's murder. The Mumbai Police have started the process of seeking his extradition and are coordinating with India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Anmol, who has 18 criminal cases against him, including extortion, is a key figure in organized crime. He is also named in two NIA chargesheets from 2022, where he is accused of helping plan attacks on high-profile individuals, alongside Lawrence Bishnoi.
