Electric vehicles (EVs) aren't a recent innovation; in fact, the technology behind them has been around for over a century!

So, what caused their initial decline in popularity?

The answer is straight: the rise of gasoline-powered vehicles, which were more affordable than their electric counterparts, led to this shift.

However, the tables have turned in recent years. With rising petrol prices, increasing dependence on foreign oil, and a growing awareness of environmental issues, EVs have surged in popularity across the globe.

In India, the growth of EVs is building rapidly. In fact, the country has set up an ambitious goal, aiming for 30% of private cars, 70% of commercial vehicles, and 80% of two- and three-wheelers to be electric by 2030.

Now, without further delay, let’s explore some of the exciting EV models set to hit the market this week.

Three Upcoming EVs

Undeniably, every month several new electric vehicles are launched in India. However, this week is special, with three highly anticipated EVs making their debut in the Indian market.

Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e: Mahindra is gearing up to unveil two electric SUVs, the BE 6e and XEV 9e, at the Unlimit India event on November 26th in Chennai. Built on Mahindra's innovative INGLO Electric Origin Architecture, these SUVs embody electric-first design principles, boasting state-of-the-art battery technology, modular designs, and futuristic features.

Honda Activa Electric: Recently, there's been a buzz surrounding Honda's upcoming Activa Electric, which will mark the company's entry into the electric scooter market in India. Scheduled to debut in Bengaluru on November 27, this much-anticipated EV aims to capitalise on the well-established Activa brand as Honda steps into India's rapidly expanding electric two-wheeler sector.

Thus, it is accurate to state that India's electric vehicles (EVs) are the way of the future, and this week's events demonstrate how manufacturers are adapting to future-ready mobility.
