Hyderabad: Telangana government is taking decisive steps to make the building sector more energy-efficient by effectively implementing the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) under the purview of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department. This ambitious vision not only fosters environmental consciousness but also promises many benefits for the public and the State government.
Telangana has now emerged as a frontrunner in the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI), a national benchmark established by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) GOI. Notably, the State is expected to achieve a remarkable feat by ensuring 100 per cent compliance with the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) for new constructions, setting a strong example for the entire country.
The Telangana State Designated Agency (SDA) and Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd (TSREDCO) tied up with the MA&UD department to ensure new government buildings adhere to self-sustainability and energy-efficient practices. This initiative is projected to yield significant savings, with an estimated reduction of 1.4 million units of electricity and 1,200 tons of CO2 emissions.
M Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary for MA&UD, said that the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy acknowledges the importance of environmentally friendly development, recognising its numerous advantages for society, encompassing the environment, the economy, and overall well-being. A key aspect of this vision is the planned rejuvenation of the Musi River ecosystem.
