Hyderabad: Telangana industry demands round-the-clock power supply, says Anil Reddy Vennam, past president and Advisor for Energy Committee of the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), and Technical Director of Nayastrap Private Limited. Speaking to Bizz Buzz, he shared some of the recommendations on the ways to fuel industrial growth in the State.
Suggesting the State government to focus on giving uninterrupted power supply to the industries and factories, he said: “Though there is surplus energy in the State, the industry is facing the problem of power cuts for hours in the last couple of months. During the regime of the previous government, the outage of power was only for a while due to maintenance issues but it is taking a long time now.”
“Unlike earlier times, the power shut downs are also frequent these days. After speaking to the senior level officials of the discoms, it is known that the new government has directed them for the maintenance of sub-stations, transmission and distribution lines on a war-footing basis. They have ensured that there was no problem in the power generation and transmission,” Anil Reddy said.
Speaking about renewable energy, he said: “The dependence on renewable sources must be increased by the State government. The discoms must speed up power purchase agreements (PPAs) for renewable energy. Also, the discoms need to procure the power through long-term PPAs instead of the short term purchases.
According to the former president of the FTCCI, the previous government has kept a huge amount of pending incentives to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the State for the past eight years. He urged the current government to disburse them as a top priority. He said that all the eligible MSMEs must get the incentives from 2014-15 and not just for one or two years.
He further suggested that the government may come up with plug-and-play industrial parks for the MSMEs in all the districts. As the land and building infrastructure has become a costly affair, the plug-and-play facilities will save the small scale sector entrepreneurs with initial capital required to start an MSME unit and more local people will be encouraged to do business.
