On Friday, a holiday for schools is declared by the District Collectors of Madurai and Mayiladuthurai, among others, due to the continuation of Tamil nadu rains.

Madurai Collector M. S. Sangeetha declared a holiday to schools in the early hours of the day, while Mayiladuthurai district collector A.P. Mahabharathi announced the same for his district owing to heavy rains.
The collector of Tiruvullur reiterated that schools and colleges in the district would remain functional without interruption. However, headmasters can make decisions to declare a holiday based on the stagnation of water, according to the collector's statement.
According to rain in Tamil nadu updates, on Thursday, the state’s southern parts witnessed heavy rainfall. In Kodaikanal, tourists remained indoors and tourist spots were depopulated.
Tiruchi and Thanjavur had also declared holidays for schools and colleges today. Schools are also closed in Pudukottai and Karur districts.
Schools and colleges in Chennai will operate normally as the other areas of the city and its surroundings witnessed little progression of showers on the otherwise overcast Friday morning.
The Union Territory Minister A. Namassivayam of Puducherry declared that all schools and colleges would not run in Karaikal and Puducherry on Friday.
The school holiday was declared in the Salem and Cuddalore districts also.
As the Department of water resources stated, it will be releasing 1,000 cusecs from the Chembarambakkam reservoir as well as 500 cusecs from the ‘Red Hills’ reservoir later today.
Holidays were also announced for schools in Dindigul and Theni districts owing to heavy rainfall along with Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts.
A holiday was announced for the colleges in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi after the announcement made yesterday for the schools in these districts.
Ariyalur Collector P. Rathinasamy announced a holiday for schools and colleges given heavy rainfall. A holiday was also given to schools in Virudhunagar district.
Nagapattinam district collector P. Akash gave a declaration for leave only to schools, unlike that for both schools and colleges in Perambalur district.
Karur, Tiruppur, and Valparai districts would have holidays on Friday for schools.
