Infosys, one of the top IT firms in India, is going to introduce a new attendance system that requires employees to work from the office at least 10 days every month.

This change will take effect on March 10, 2025, and is intended to boost workplace attendance, which saw a sharp drop following the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the information, this significant shift will affect a large portion of the Infosys workforce, including senior engineers, software engineers, and consultants.

But now the question arises: "Is the change necessary?" The answer is yes! And, in reality, there are various reasons and concerns, including reduced collaboration, weakened workplace culture, and the potential for moonlighting, that have prompted the stricter policy.

How the new mandate will work

The Infosys mobile app for staff attendance will be used to enforce the change. Requests for WFH will no longer be accepted automatically. For employees to reach the 10-day requirement, they must actively plan their office days. Deductions from leave balances may occur if this criteria is not met.

However, competitors of Infosys have also attached different policies. For instance, Tata Consultancy Services has tied employee variable pay to its five-day work-from-office policy. Additionally, TCS began tying employees' quarterly variable compensation to their in-office attendance earlier in 2024. The quarterly incentive will not be given to those who have less than 60% attendance.
