Students explore ocean science at CIFT Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Research Centre of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) commemorated its sixty-seventh foundation day on Monday by creating awareness among school students on ocean wealth.
The students were given an opportunity to go around the fishing technology, fish processing and biotechnology laboratories. Approximately 100 students and civilians availed themselves of the opportunity to visit the centre, with scientists and technical staff explaining about the ongoing research activities.
A science project competition themed balancing ocean health and human needs was organised for high school students, drawing enthusiastic participation from various schools in Visakhapatnam. GVMC High School, Madhuranagar, bagged the first prize. St Aloysius Anglo Indian High School and Visakha Valley School received the second and third prizes.
Dr KS Krishna, a distinguished professor and Dean of the School of Sciences at GITAM (deemed university), in his address, lauded the institute's remarkable journey since its inception in 1957, emphasising the imperative of studying ocean dynamics and advocating for the conservation of our seas. Dr Krishna underscored the vital importance of sustainable management of oceanic resources in ensuring the well-being of marine ecosystems.
