In an intense clash at the Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024, India edged past South Korea with a 3-2 win, thanks to striker Deepika's decisive penalty stroke just three minutes before the final whistle. The match, held in Rajgir, saw India initially dominate with a 2-0 lead in the first half, courtesy of goals by Sangita Kumari in the 3rd minute and Deepika in the 20th minute.
However, the tide turned in the third quarter as South Korea staged a formidable comeback. With the game poised for a thrilling conclusion, both teams aggressively sought the winning goal. It was Deepika who emerged as the hero, converting a penalty stroke in the 57th minute to secure India’s second consecutive victory in the tournament.
Earlier, Thailand and Japan played to a 1-1 draw, while China, the reigning Olympic silver medalists, thrashed Malaysia 5-0, marking their second consecutive win.
