Defending champions Haryana won the toss and chose to bowl first in their crucial Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 Group A match against Assam at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

After suffering a seven-wicket loss in their opening match, Haryana bounced back with consecutive victories over Goa (by eight wickets) and Jharkhand (by 64 runs). They are currently fourth in the eight-team standings with eight points.

Under the leadership of Ashok Menaria, Haryana claimed their maiden domestic List A title last year, defeating Rajasthan by 30 runs in the final.

Assam, on the other hand, sits seventh with four points, having secured one win and suffered two defeats. Captain Sibsankar Roy is leading the team in the absence of Riyan Parag. Assam lost to Jharkhand and Gujarat by seven and eight wickets, respectively, but had a five-wicket win against Odisha. In the previous edition, Assam finished last in Group D with one win and five losses. Their best performance came in the 2012-13 edition, where they finished as runners-up after a 75-run loss to Delhi.
