Congress leader Shashi Tharoor recently met the parents of 26-year-old Anna Sebastian Perayil, who passed away in July while working at Ernst & Young (EY).

He criticised the "toxic work culture" at the firm, claiming that Anna's heart attack was due to extreme work pressure after just four months at EY’s Pune office.

Anna's mother, Anita Augustine, wrote a letter to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani, pointing out the harmful culture of overwork, which gained widespread attention.

During his visit, Tharoor shared photos with Anna’s parents and stressed the need for an investigation and new laws to address workplace stress.

He supported implementing a 40-hour workweek and promised to bring up the issue in Parliament, calling for measures to prevent inhumane working conditions.

Anna's father, Sibi Joseph, mentioned that he had advised her to leave her job due to late-night hours, but she wanted the experience.

The family stated that they had raised concerns about the work pressure, but no action was taken by EY.

They were also hurt that no company representatives attended Anna’s funeral.

In response to the situation, EY expressed its sadness over Anna's death and stated that it had been in contact with her family.

The Union government is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
