Capital markets regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) on Monday took a proactive step by withdrawing its press release issued on September 4, which addressed claims of unprofessional work culture, stating that these concerns are “misplaced” and reaffirmed that employee-related issues will be managed internally.

“Following constructive discussions with representatives of all grades of officers, SEBI and its employees have reaffirmed that such issues are strictly internal and will be managed by the organization’s high standards of governance and within a time-bound framework,” SEBI said in a statement issued on Monday.

The withdrawal came days after the employees staged a 15-minute silent protest at the Mumbai headquarters on September 5.

Nearly 500 SEBI employees wrote a letter to the Union Finance Ministry on August 6, expressing their concerns about the “toxic work culture” and putting forth other demands.

According to the letter, the employees have also accused top officials of yelling, lecturing, and humiliating them in public during meetings.

However, in its most recent statement, SEBI acknowledged the crucial contribution played by its employees over 36 years in shaping India's securities industry. SEBI said that they will deal with employee-related issues through proper internal channels.
