Hyderabad: Ramky Infrastructure Limited (RIL), a flagship company of Ramky Group on Wednesday said it has secured two contracts worth Rs 216.65 crore for the reclamation of Chennai’s Kodungaiyur dumping ground through Biomining.
Ramky Infra in an official release said that it has entered into two contracts worth Rs 39.88 crore and Rs 176.77 crore (exclusive of GST) for package two and package five, respectively, with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) for the reclamation of Kodungaiyur dumping ground through Biomining. The contract sets a time frame of 28 months (2 years and 4 months) for the execution of the project.
Speaking about the project, Yancharla Rathnakara Nagaraja, Managing Director, Ramky Infrastructure Limited, said: “This project, taken up by the Ramky Infra to clear the legacy waste at the Kodungaiyur dumpsite will redefine the Chennai urban landscape. This Biomining project stands as a testament to our commitment towards sustainable development. It also enhances our capability in providing solutions to complex environmental challenges.”
Spread across 252 acres, the 50-year-old dumping ground has accumulated about 66 lakh tonnes of unsegregated solid waste, and about 3,000 tonnes of waste arrives at Kodungaiyur every day. RIL further said that this waste poses severe pollution concerns and is likely to result in fires at the dumping yard. Reclamation through biomining is a scientific process of excavating, segregating and treating the legacy municipal solid waste.
