Visakhapatnam: A few days after inaugurating the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam and dedicating the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Mangalagiri near Guntur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Visakha Refinery Modernisation Project (VMRP) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) on Saturday. Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several projects virtually from Begusarai in Bihar-his first visit after the return of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to the NDA coalition.

All these projects are worth Rs 1.64 lakh crore, out of which a whopping Rs 1.5 lakh crore is being spent on projects being taken up under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG). HPCL has completed upgradation and existing facilities and the expansion of Visakh Refinery capacity from 8.33 to 15 million tonnes at a cost of Rs 26,264 crore. The expansion includes construction and commissioning of Fuel Catalytic Hydrocracking Unit (FCHU), Residual Upgrading Unit and Crude Distillation Unit (CDU)-4. Earlier, Modi was supposed to visit Visakhapatnam on March 1, to declare the VRMP open.
