On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Wayanad, Kerala, after severe landslides hit the area. He compared the situation to the 1979 Morbi dam disaster in Gujarat and promised full support from the central government.

Modi assessed the destruction caused by the landslides on July 30, which resulted in the deaths of more than 200 individuals.

He recalled his experience with the Morbi disaster, where a dam failure led to flooding and over 2,500 deaths, and he had volunteered to help.

In Wayanad, Modi toured the damaged Chooralmala region and visited a relief camp in Meppadi, meeting survivors, including children who lost family members.

Accompanied by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister Suresh Gopi, Modi also inspected a 190-foot Bailey bridge built by the army and conducted an aerial survey of the hardest-hit areas.

Before leaving, Modi assured Kerala that the central government would provide all the needed resources for recovery and rebuilding.
