On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a gathering in Jamui, Bihar, to mark the 150th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda.

He spoke about the efforts of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in giving tribal communities their due. According to Modi, previous governments had neglected tribal communities.

During the event, several tribal welfare projects worth over ₹6,000 crore were launched.

PM Modi said his government decided to celebrate Birsa Munda's birth anniversary as ‘Janjaatiya Gaurav Divas’ (Tribal Pride Day). This was to correct the historical injustice done to tribal people.

He emphasised that tribal communities played a key role in India's freedom struggle. He mentioned movements like the Munda, Santhalia, and Hol revolutions, and said these contributions were ignored by previous governments.

Modi also inaugurated projects worth ₹6,640 crore, which include initiatives for education, health, infrastructure, and housing.

He opened two Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museums and two Tribal Research Institutes to preserve tribal history.

The Prime Minister praised the bravery and sacrifices of tribal freedom fighters. He said that the NDA government has taken steps to preserve their culture and legacy.

Modi also praised the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. It was the first to form a dedicated tribal ministry and allocate a special budget for tribal welfare.

He thanked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for supporting tribal welfare initiatives, including the nomination of Droupadi Murmu as the presidential candidate.

PM Modi also spoke about Murmu's efforts for tribal welfare during her time as Jharkhand Governor.

Finally, Modi mentioned that the budget for tribal communities has increased from ₹25,000 crore to ₹1,25,000 crore.

He said his government has focused on improving the most deprived tribal districts by appointing the best officers to ensure their development.
