Piyush Goyal Call Donald Trump ‘A Friend of India’; Stresses on Strengthening Economic Ties
Calling US President-elect Donald Trump as ‘friend of India’, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that discussions are underway on strengthening the bilateral economic partnership once the new government is formed.
During a press briefing, Goyal said, “We should not jump the gun. We should let the new government come and express their formal and official views. But to the best of my understanding of the situation and my own experience in working with the Trump administration and India’s experience in working with the Trump administration, I do not foresee any problem whatsoever.”
He added, “Trump himself on record said, ‘my good friend Modi’. And the confidence that he has with the India partnership has been expressed by him on many occasions.”
The Modi government has worked with 3 administrations over the past 10 years, which were led by Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden and India’s relationship with the US continued to improve, Goyal said.
The Commerce and Industry Minister further said, “Mr Trump is a friend of India, a friend of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I am sure this friendship will only continue to blossom and grow further as is evident from the various comments he has made so far.”
Donald Trump won the US Presidential election earlier this month. He is set to assume The Oval office in January next year
