OSL Group signs pact with VPA for WQ-6 upgradation

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Tuesday signed the concession agreement with Integrated Cargo Terminal Private Limited, a subsidiary SPV of Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL Group) for modernisation of West Quay-6 berth at an estimated cost of Rs 165.70 crore.
The terminal will have a handling capacity of 5.18 mmtpa. The agreement was signed between VPA Chairman M Angamuthu and OSL Visakhapatnam operations in-charge JK Nayak.
The PPP project envisaged revamping of existing WQ-6 terminal in the northern arm of Inner Harbour at Visakhapatnam Port for handling all types of dry bulk cargo on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis for 30 years.
The existing WQ-6 berth with a berth length of 255 meters with a draft of 14.0 meters can cater to vessels up to 65,000 DWT with a maximum overall length (LoA) of 210 meters and 32.5 meters beam. The project moots installation of two harbour mobile cranes of 1200 tonnes per hour (TPH) having safe lifting capacity of 100 tonnes with two mobile hoppers and other modern handling equipment. The facility once completed will generate minimum 100 direct and indirect employment to locals, an OSL official said.
