The Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has reported a record-breaking footfall of over 9 lakh riders on Friday, largely due to Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert in the city.

According to BMRCL, the total boardings reached 9,20,562, with Line 1 (Purple Line) recording 4.39 lakh riders and Line 2 (Green Line) attracting 3.12 lakh riders. The Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Station managed 1.67 lakh riders. This new milestone surpasses the previous record of 9.17 lakh riders set on August 14, 2024, and exceeds earlier peaks of 8.26 lakh on August 6, 2024, and 8.25 lakh on Independence Day 2022.

In addition to the concert at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on Friday night, the BMRCL attributed the increase in ridership to the typical weekend rush.

A BMRCL spokesperson noted, “With the Green Line connecting to Madavara (BIEC), thousands of music lovers attending the concert had convenient access to the Metro. Along with a weekend ahead and people travelling to their hometowns, this likely contributed to the rise in ridership on Friday.”

In anticipation of heavy traffic congestion on Tumkur Road, Bengaluru traffic police advised the public to use public transport to reach the BIEC.
