Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni went to a Hyderabad court on Tuesday to share his statement in a ₹100 crore defamation case against Telangana Minister Konda Surekha.
This case arose after Surekha made controversial comments about the divorce of Nagarjuna's son, Naga Chaitanya, and actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
The controversy started when Surekha claimed that BRS leader KT Rama Rao was involved in Naga Chaitanya and Samantha's split in 2021.
Her comments, made at a public event, drew criticism from politicians and the Telugu film industry. Even though Surekha later took back her words, saying she spoke out of emotion, Nagarjuna believed her remarks hurt his family's reputation.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Nagarjuna arrived at Nampally court with his wife Amala and son Naga Chaitanya to present his case.
He filed the defamation complaint under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), asserting that Surekha's comments were false and damaging to his family's public image.
After Surekha's statements, both Samantha and Naga Chaitanya clarified that their divorce was a mutual decision.
The ex-couple condemned the minister's remarks, with many prominent figures in the Telugu film industry expressing their disapproval.
The court is scheduled to hear the case on October 10 to decide whether to take cogniSance of Nagarjuna's complaint.
