Modi Govt Approved 'One Nation One Subscription' Scheme
On Monday, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a new central sector initiative called "One Nation One Subscription." This program aims to ensure that journal publications and scholarly research articles are accessible nationwide.
As part of this initiative, a budget of Rs 6,000 crore has been allocated to support the program over the calendar years 2025, 2026, and 2027, with the goal of enhancing higher education and research across the country.
The benefits of this scheme are expected to extend to approximately 1.8 crore students, faculty, and researchers in India, spanning a diverse range of academic and research fields. By closing the access gap, the initiative will promote both core and interdisciplinary research, fostering collaboration and innovation.
The One Nation One Subscription scheme is closely aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), and the government’s vision for Viksit Bharat@2047.
The ANRF will periodically assess the usage of this subscription service and monitor the publications attributed to Indian authors from participating institutions.
