Maharashtra woman in coma following California crash

A 35-year-old woman from Maharashtra's Satara district, Neelam Shinde, has been in a coma for over 10 days after being hit by a car in California. The incident occurred on February 14, when Neelam, a fourth-year student at California State University, was walking in the evening. According to her family, the car struck her from behind in a suspected hit-and-run, causing serious injuries to her arms, legs, chest, and head.
Neelam’s family, who were informed about the accident two days later by her roommate, had urgently requested the Indian government’s help in securing a visa to visit her in the U.S. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs took up the matter, and the U.S. embassy in Mumbai scheduled an interview for the family on February 28, assuring them that they were expediting the visa process.
Neelam is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of C Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Her family confirmed that she has been in a coma due to a blow to her chest.
