Maharashtra Government offers Rs 5 lakh aid for victims of Jalgaon train tragedy
The Maharashtra government has announced a financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic train accident in Jalgaon district. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, currently in Davos, conveyed the announcement through a video message, assuring that the government will also cover the medical treatment costs for the injured.
At least ten passengers tragically lost their lives after jumping off the Pushpak Express amid rumors of a fire on board. In the chaos, the passengers were struck by another train passing on the adjacent tracks, authorities confirmed.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde explained that the incident occurred when passengers, fearing a fire, leaped from the train. The exact number of victims is still being verified, with efforts underway to ensure those injured are immediately transported to hospitals for proper treatment.
Shinde further emphasized that rescue teams and railway officials have been dispatched to the scene, working to manage the situation. Maharashtra's Governor, CP Radhakrishnan, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the grieving families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar described the event as heart-rending, stating that it left many families devastated. He demanded better treatment facilities for the survivors and an investigation by the Railways to prevent such accidents in the future.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray also offered his condolences, acknowledging the fear caused by the fire rumors that led to the tragedy. Meanwhile, Congress president Nana Patole criticized the government's handling of the situation, calling for accountability and an investigation into the incident.
