Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his eagerness for "meaningful" discussions at the upcoming G20 summit in Brazil, continuing the legacy of India's presidency of the bloc from last year. These remarks came as the Prime Minister set off on a five-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana.

Modi’s journey begins in Nigeria, then moves to Brazil, and concludes in Guyana.

"In Brazil, I will attend the 19th G-20 Summit as a member of the troika. Last year, India's presidency elevated the G-20 to a people's forum and integrated the priorities of the Global South into its agenda," stated the Prime Minister.

The summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18 and 19 will see attendance from global leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden. India, alongside Brazil and South Africa, forms the G20 troika.

"This year, Brazil has built upon India's legacy. I anticipate meaningful discussions aligned with our vision of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future.' Additionally, I will engage in bilateral talks with several other leaders," Modi added.

India’s previous presidency of the G20 was marked by significant milestones such as the inclusion of the 55-nation African Union as a permanent G20 member and overcoming deep divisions over the Ukraine conflict to produce a leaders' declaration.

In Nigeria, the Prime Minister aims to strengthen the strategic partnership with the country, rooted in shared democratic and pluralistic values. His visit to Nigeria from November 16-17 is at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

"This will be my first visit to Nigeria, a close partner in the West African region. I am also looking forward to meeting the Indian community and friends from Nigeria who have warmly welcomed me," Modi remarked.

The final leg of Modi's trip will be in Guyana from November 19 to 21, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in over 50 years.

"We will discuss the strategic direction of our unique relationship, which is founded on shared heritage, culture, and values," Modi stated. He will also address the Guyanese Parliament and pay respects to one of the oldest Indian diasporas, which migrated over 185 years ago.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the upcoming India-CARICOM summit in Guyana. The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is an intergovernmental organization of 15 member states in the Caribbean, promoting economic integration and cooperation among its members.

"The summit will allow us to renew historical ties and expand our cooperation into new areas," Modi said.

Modi mentioned his three-nation visit in a post on X: "Over the next few days, I will be in Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana. This trip includes various bilateral and multilateral engagements that will enhance India's relationships with these nations."

"I will participate in the G20 Summit in Brazil, meet Caribbean leaders in Guyana, and interact with the Indian community during this visit," he added.
