Despite his fragile health condition, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has always displayed his political sharpness. In fact, during the 2024 Lok Sabha Election, he criticised PM Modi's election campaign for making 'hateful speeches' and lowering the dignity of the PM office.

In the same way, the Congress party leader had also hit out at the BJP for imposing an "ill-conceived" Agnipath Scheme, which he termed as a threat to national security.

Mounting an attack on Modi, he said, “I have been keenly following the political discourse during this election campaign. Modi ji has indulged in the most vicious form of hate speeches, which are purely divisive in nature. Modi Ji is the first prime minister to lower the dignity of public discourse and thereby the gravity of the office of the prime minister.

“No prime minister in the past has uttered such hateful, unparliamentary and coarse terms, meant to target either a specific section of society or the opposition. He has also attributed some false statements to me. I have never in my life singled out one community from the other. That is the sole copyright of the BJP,” the former prime minister had said.

Although he has always been an upright individual, the nation read of his tragic and heartbreaking death on Thursday at the age of 92.

AIIMS in a statement said, “With profound grief, we inform you of the demise of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had a sudden loss of consciousness at home on 26th December 2024. Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi, at 8:06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM.”
