Thiruvananthapuram: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, is calling on State Governments and State Designated Agencies (SDAs) across the country to implement advanced energy efficiency measures as part of India’s strategy to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070. The proposed measures focus on promoting energy efficiency, adopting renewable energy, and increasing the use of electric power in various sectors, aiming to transform transportation, improve energy availability, and reshape business models.

As part of this national initiative, Kerala has emerged as a frontrunner, taking bold steps to ensure both environmental sustainability and economic development through energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies. A key meeting was held in Thiruvananthapuram between A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, Adviser for Southern States and Union Territories, BEE, Hari Kumar, Director of the Energy Management Centre (EMC) Kerala, and K.R. Jyothi Lal, Additional Chief Secretary of Kerala’s Power Department, to discuss the role of communication strategies in enhancing energy efficiency initiatives and addressing climate change.

Kerala has committed to reducing its reliance on imported fuels, meeting increasing electricity demands, and improving environmental sustainability. The National Electricity Plan projects that energy efficiency measures could cut electricity demand by 12–15per cent by 2030. In line with this, Kerala has announced the International Energy Festival of Kerala (IEFK) 2025, set for February 7–9, 2025, in Thiruvananthapuram. The event will gather global energy experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and students to discuss innovative energy solutions, showcase energy efficiency technologies, and celebrate progress in energy conservation.

KR Jyothi Lal emphasized, “Kerala is dedicated to becoming a leader in energy efficiency and carbon neutrality. The IEFK 2025 will be a landmark event, bringing together global professionals, innovators, and investors to explore sustainable energy strategies and a greener future.”

Speaking at the event, Milind Deora, Secretary of BEE, praised Kerala’s proactive role and the upcoming IEFK 2025 as a vital platform for presenting energy efficiency programs and fostering investment.
