Amid a sexual abuse investigation, JD(S) Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, allegedly abroad, is expected to surrender to Karnataka police, reports say. Videos purportedly showing the 33-year-old surfaced recently in Hassan, prompting the formation of a Special Investigation Team by the state government.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah vowed to track Prajwal's whereabouts for inquiry, asserting the government's commitment to law. Prajwal, advised by his father, HD Revanna, plans to surrender to the SIT.
Reports suggest Prajwal may arrive in Bengaluru early Monday to surrender to the investigating team. A Blue Corner notice, seeking international cooperation, was issued against Prajwal by the Karnataka Home Minister.
Meanwhile, Prajwal's father, HD Revanna, also a JD (S) leader, was arrested by the SIT on sexual assault charges after a court rejected his plea in a kidnapping case. He was remanded to custody until May 8. The kidnapping case was linked to an ‘obscene video’ matter involving Prajwal.
Revanna labelled his arrest a political ploy, denying involvement and alleging conspiracy. He criticised the lack of evidence in the complaint filed against him, citing political motives behind the allegations.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman accused the Congress of delaying action against Prajwal for over a year despite being aware of the situation. She alleged the delay was to retain Vokkaliga votes, a key constituency.
The case signifies the political tension and accusations surrounding the allegations, with parties trading blame ahead of the elections. The situation reflects the need for transparency and accountability in political matters, emphasising the importance of addressing such serious allegations promptly and impartially.
