Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah presented the 16th budget of the state on March 7. Close to ₹4.095 lakh crore have been allocated towards FY25-26.

₹51,034 crore have been allocated for the five guarantee schemes promised by the Congress government in the state.

Here are few highlights of the budget

1. About ₹82,000 crore have been allocated for capital investment.

2. Liquor prices are set to be reviewed and increased to match the rates in the neighbouring states.

3. A reservation of 4% has been introduced for Muslims in government tenders and contracts.

Grants close to ₹100 crore have been designated for the Comprehensive development of Jain, Buddhist and Sikh communities. ₹250 crore has also been set aside for the development of Christian community. A Sannati Development Authority will be established in the ancient Buddhist centre of Sannati in Kalaburgi district.

The annual salary of the temple priests has been increased from ₹60,000 to ₹72,000. Honorarium of Jain priests will be exceeded at ₹6000 to Jain priests, Chief Grantis of Sikhs and Pesh-Imams of mosques.

What will happen in Bengaluru?

1. Budget allocation for Bengaluru has been increased to ₹7000 crore, while a total of ₹1,800 crore has been allocated towards 21 projects under the Brand Bengaluru initiative.

2. In the span of three years a 'Comprehensive Health Programme' will be implemented at a cost of ₹413 crore.

3. A network of 300 kms of additional roads will be constructed at a cost of ₹3,000 crore in the city.
