Kargil Vijay Diwas: It's history

"Kargil Vijay Diwas." Three words that stir a potent blend of solemn remembrance and national pride. In terms of history, it was the day when Pakistani troops infiltrated the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir, capturing, destroying and killing officers guarding the areas.

This invasion was planned to cut off India's main road to a key area known as Siachen Glacier and use this mover to force India into settling Kashmir according to their terms and conditions. However, soon after detecting the invasion, the Indian Army launched “Operation Vijay” to reclaim the occupied territories. The plan involved a series of battles, including the capture of Tololing, Tiger Hill, and Batalik.

In fact, the conflict was fought at high altitudes, with soldiers encountering treacherous terrain, extreme weather conditions, and hostile fire. Despite these hurdles, the Indian army demonstrated tremendous bravery, and the conflict officially ended on July 26, 1999, marking India's victory over Pakistan; hence, establishing Kargil Vijay Diwas.
