Asian Games medalist and India’s top-ranked hurdler, Jyothi Yarraji, will be heading to Tenerife, Spain, to hone her skills ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024.

Jyothi, along with her coach James Hillier, will head to Tenerife for a period of 45 days for an intense training programme that will prepare her for the upcoming European season and the subsequent Paris Olympics 2024.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs’ (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) approved the Indian athlete’s request for the foreign training plan. Jyothi is currently ranked 23rd on the Road to Paris list in the women’s 100m hurdles event.

The MOC, under its Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding, will take care of the travel and training expenses.

Jyothi is currently the Indian record holder in her pet event, the 100m hurdles event, and has broken her own multiple personal bests. Given the form the Indian sprinter is in, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to expect a good performance from her at the upcoming Olympic Games.

The MOC also approved top Indian doubles badminton pair Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy’s proposal for financial assistance for sparring partners to train ahead of the Paris Olympics.

The Indian badminton stars will train alongside the Scottish pair of Alexander Dunn and Adam Hall and the Indonesian pair of Rain Agung and Berry Angriawan.

While Chirag and Satwik will train with Dunn and Hall in Mumbai in June, they will spar with Agung and Angriawan in Hyderabad in July. The TOPS will cover the expenses for the same.

Both Satwiksairaj and Chirag are medal contenders at the Paris Olympics. The duo have been at the pinnacle of rankings for several weeks now and have become a force to be reckoned with in the badminton circuit.

Meanwhile, the MOC also approved foreign training requests for Indian shooters Raiza Dhillon and Rajeshwari Kumari. The duo will head to Italy for training.

While Raiza will train with her personal coach, Rajeshwari will be under the tutelage of David Kostelecky.

The MOC also granted approval for para-shooters Rahul Jakhar and Rubina Francis to participate in the upcoming WSPS World Cup in Changwon, South Korea.
