JioHotstar Domain Drama: ₹1 Crore Demand Replaced by Charity Message
As of Friday, the site instead features Jainam and Jivika’s story, showing their efforts to connect with and inspire kids from different backgrounds.
It remains to be seen how Reliance will respond, and updates from JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar are expected.
The JioHotstar domain drama has taken a surprising twist.
A techie who originally asked Reliance for ₹1 crore to give up the domain has now replaced that message with details about two siblings from Dubai, Jainam and Jivika, who help underprivileged kids get access to education.
This change has left people guessing about what happened.
Earlier this week, a Delhi-based developer shared that they bought the JioHotstar domain in 2023, hoping it would be valuable if JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar merged.
The techie offered to sell it to Reliance for ₹1 crore to cover their dream course at Cambridge University, but Reliance refused and allegedly warned of legal action, citing copyright concerns.
Without the means to fight, the techie said they would take the site down.
As of Friday, the site instead features Jainam and Jivika’s story, showing their efforts to connect with and inspire kids from different backgrounds.
Speculation now suggests the techie may have let go of the domain, and it was bought by someone for around ₹4.6 lakh, as listed on NameCheap.com.
It remains to be seen how Reliance will respond, and updates from JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar are expected.
