D Fadnavis Will Be Maharashtra Chief Minister
Now it's official! Devendra Fadnavis wins the race. In addition, he is all set to be the Maharashtra Chief Minister and will take oath tomorrow, December 5, at Azad Maidan in Mumbai at 5:30 PM.
The decision came after the party's core committee members endorsed Fadnavis's name. In fact, after more than 10 days of deliberations and rounds of meetings, the BJP on Wednesday finally elected Fadnavis as their legislative party leader.
In the recently held state assembly polls, the Mahayuti alliance won 230 of the 288 assembly seats. The BJP led with 132 seats, while the Shiv Sena got 57 and the NCP 41 seats.
After the decision, Maharashtra BJP Chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the party did well and earned seats for the Mahayuti alliance under Devendra Fadnavis’ leadership.
"We should thank crores of people from Maharashtra that we contested 149 seats and won 132, which is the highest in history. Our allies also won 57 and 41 seats..........we will have 237 MahaYuti members in this assembly," he added.
The swearing-in ceremony will witness various leaders, including the Deputy Chief Minister and other prominent leaders. Additionally, the oath-taking ceremony is expected to witness PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other top leaders.
