On Friday, ISRO successfully conducted the third and final test flight of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle-D3 (SSLV-D3), which transported the Earth Observation Satellite EOS-08.

The rocket lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, about 135 km east of Chennai, at 9:17 am.

The mission was designed to test a small satellite and its instruments. The EOS-08 satellite, based on the Microsat/IMS-1 design, features three main tools.

The Electro Optical Infrared Payload (EOIR) captures images in Mid-Wave and Long-Wave Infrared to help with disaster monitoring, environmental tracking, fire detection, and volcanic activity.

The Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry (GNSS-R) payload uses satellite signals to study ocean winds, soil moisture, snow and ice in the Himalayas, floods, and water bodies.
