IPL 2024 KKR vs PBKS: KKR smash seventh-highest total in history of IPL

Kolkata Knight Riders batters indulged in a run-fest against Punjab Kings and scored the highest-ever T20 total at the Eden Gardens on Friday. The KKR batters were unstoppable from the word go and scored a mammoth 261/6 in their 20 overs against a hapless PBKS bowling attack.

Phil Salt (75, 37 balls, 6 fours and 6 sixes) and Sunil Narine (71, 32 balls, 9 fours, 4 sixes) added 138 for the first wicket in just 10.2 overs while Venkatesh Iyer (39, 23 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) Shreyas Iyer (28, 10 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes) and Andre Russell (24, 12 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) made merry with the bat as they combined smacked 18 sixes and 22 fours in their innings.

The total of 261 is now the seventh highest in the history of the IPL with six of the top scores coming in the ongoing edition, tilting the scales heavily in the favour of batters. The 261 that KKR has scored is now the highest score at Eden Gardens, eclipsing the 235/4 scored by Chennai Super Kings against KKR in the 2023 edition. KKR’s previous highest score at the Eden Gardens is 232/2 that they scored against Mumbai Indians in 2019.

KKR opening batters survived three dropped catches in the first seven overs and made PBKS pay dearly for their lapses. The KKR batters were harsh on the PBKS pacers taking them for 205 runs in 14 overs with the spinners giving away just 54 in six overs.

The Kolkata batters also equalled their effort of scoring the most number of sixes in an innings after scoring the same 18 sixes against Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam in the ongoing edition.
