Indian Railways is set to introduce the much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper trains by 2025, promising to enhance long-distance travel with a new level of comfort and safety. These trains, expected to be launched after testing and trial runs in 2025, will feature world-class facilities and advanced interiors.
Launch Timeline and Testing
The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will undergo essential trials, including oscillation and other tests, for two months starting November 15, 2024. After this, the trains will be ready for commercial service. The first Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset has already been delivered to the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai by BEML.
While the specific routes for these trains have not yet been announced, they are likely to connect major cities, with possibilities including New Delhi to Pune or New Delhi to Srinagar.
Features of Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains
Designed for long-distance travel, these Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will offer improved safety and comfort. Built with high-strength Austenitic stainless steel, the trains will feature crash buffers and specially designed couplers to enhance passenger safety in emergencies. The 16-car trainsets will have a capacity of up to 823 passengers, offering various classes including First-Class AC, 2-Tier AC, and 3-Tier AC.
