Hyderabad: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), a premier professional body organised a day-long seminar on “Demystifying NCLT Practices,” in the city recently.
Addressing the gathering B Narasimhan, National president, ICSI said that if the Indian economy becomes $30 trillion by 2047, as aspired by the Prime Minister of India, the country will need two lakh company secretaries, which is thrice the size from the current 72,000 members.
ICSI enrolls 14,000 students every year under various programmes. “We will be doubling the number this year due to an increasing industry demand,” Narasimhan said. The Institute has over 72,000 members and around two lakh students on its roll.
UGC recognises Company Secretary Qualification as equivalent to a PG Degree, the National president informed. Similarly, UKENIC - the UK’s National Agency has benchmarked ICSI qualification.
ICSI has rolled out an initiative, ‘Startup and MSME Catalyst.’ Company Secretaries will be able to extend support in areas of startup registration, accounting, tax, and finance, investment / fund raising, and legal compliance.
ICSI has also set up the ICSI Institute of Insolvency Professionals, a frontline regulator registered with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
ICSI will be holding its 3rd International Conference on the theme, ‘Building Resilient and Sustainable Economies,’ on April 5 and 6, 2024, in Singapore.
