Each eligible citizen of India is required by law to produce a voter ID card at the time of voting. The voter's ID card must always have the most current information. After getting married, a woman's address often changes, and she may be required to update her voter ID card to reflect her new address. The application process for transferring voter ID cards after marriage has become easier nowadays, thanks to online services.
Voter ID card transfer process
The Election Commission of India has simplified the procedure for transferring voter ID cards after marriage by implementing an online system. If you want to change your address on your voter ID after getting married, you'll need to provide scanned proof of identity documents that include both your name and the new address, or the address your husband currently resides. This address will be officially recorded as your current residence.
Proof of address for changing the address on a voter ID card after getting married can be provided by any of the following:
Utility bills not older than a year (Water, gas, or electricity bills)
Aadhaar card
Current passbook of a nationalized or scheduled bank or post office
Indian passport
Revenue Department’s land-owning records, including Kisan Bahi
Registered lease/rent deed
Registered sale deed
Step-by-step guide for voter ID card transfer
Step 1: Visit the National Voter’s Service Portal (NVSP) portal.

Step 2: Click on ‘Login’ and enter your credentials to log into the NVSP portal.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Fill Form 8’ option under the ‘Shifting of residence/ correction of entries in existing electoral roll’ tab.
Step 4: Select ‘Self’. Your EPIC number will be displayed on the screen. Click ‘Submit’.
Step 5: Your Voter details will be displayed. Click ‘OK’. Next, select the ‘Shifting of Residence’ option, select ‘Within Assembly Constituency’ or ‘Outside Assembly Constituency’, and click ‘Ok’.
Step 6: Fill out Form 8 with all the required details. Select the state, district and assembly, or parliamentary constituency. Next, enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, and email. Next, enter your new address and upload the address proof document. Enter the declaration and captcha code and click ‘Preview and Submit’.
Step 7: Preview the filled Form 8 and click ‘Submit’.
You will get a confirmation email or text message with your application reference number after you submit Form 8. Within the next few days, you will be able to pick up your new voter ID at your local electoral office or access it online at the NVSP website.
