Consumers in India, particularly in Pune, may have to pay more for air conditioners (ACs) as manufacturers prepare for a price increase of 4-5 per cent. Rising input costs and shortages of key components such as compressors and copper tubes have led major brands, including Haier, Bluestar, and supplier EPack Durables, to revise prices upward.
The price adjustment, expected to take effect soon, follows global supply chain disruptions, increased freight costs, and a surge in raw material prices. Manufacturers cite production challenges stemming from component shortages and heightened demand as primary reasons for passing on additional costs to buyers.
Haier, holding a 10 per cent market share in India’s AC segment, is increasing production capacity to meet an anticipated 25-30 per cent spike in demand. Despite ramped-up output, component supply constraints continue to pressure the industry. Price increases are estimated at Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 per unit, affecting entry-level and mid-range ACs more significantly, while premium and inverter models may see a relatively lower price impact due to better profit margins.
Leading brands, including Voltas, Blue Star, Daikin, LG, and Samsung, are expected to implement similar price revisions. Retailers advise customers to finalize purchases before the new pricing takes effect. The Indian AC market, experiencing steady growth, is undergoing a price shift driven by increased consumer demand and market corrections.
