Govt Launches ₹10,900 Crore PM E-DRIVE Scheme To Accelerate EV Adoption
Replacing the previously launched FAME program, the new PM E-DRIVE scheme will accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India through subsidies, demand incentives, public charging infrastructure, and modernised vehicle testing facilities.
PM E-DRIVE Scheme
To propel India’s transition to electric mobility, the Modi government has launched the ambitious PM E-DRIVE scheme, investing an impressive Rs 10,900 crore to foster widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) nationwide. In fact, the PM E-DRIVE scheme will be operational for two years.
In place of the previously launched FAME scheme, the new initiative will support the nation's adoption of electric cars (EVs) through the installation of public charging stations, the modernisation of vehicle testing agencies, and subsidies and demand incentives on electric models across many categories. Additionally, it will also facilitate the installation of 22,100 fast chargers for electric four-wheelers, 1,800 for e-buses, and 48,400 for two-wheelers and three-wheelers, with a dedicated Rs 2,000 crore for this infrastructure.
Further, supporting the goal of promoting an efficient and competitive EV manufacturing industry in India, Rs 780 crore will also be invested in modernising testing agencies to keep pace with emerging EV technologies.
