Government Launches Anti-Fraud App Chakshu
Chakshu app for reporting fraud calls: The government unveiled the Chakshu portal on Monday to allow subscribers to report alleged fraudulent phone calls, messages containing job offers and lottery promotions, and even suspected leaks of phone numbers by businesses.

The government introduced the Chakshu portal on Monday, which falls under the 'Sanchar Sathi' umbrella. This portal allows subscribers to report alleged fraudulent phone calls, messages containing job offers and lottery promotions, and even suspected phone number leaks by businesses.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister of Information Technology and Communications, stated that the Department of Telecom Services has assisted citizens in saving approximately Rs 1000 crore over the past nine months by implementing digital measures to prevent crime and fraud. Additionally, the department has frozen Rs 1008 crore in bank accounts associated with fraudulent transactions.
"Chakshu is about reporting something that people suspect is a fraud," Vaishnaw commented.

When queried about the protocol implemented regarding business-initiated mobile number leaks, the minister responded that subscribers have the ability to disclose such incidents through the Chakshu portal, where repercussions shall befall the responsible party. The minister stated that one crore mobile numbers associated with malicious activities have been disconnected over the past nine months.
In order to prevent fraud, the Department of Telecommunications also introduced the Digital Intelligence Platform, which will facilitate the coordination and exchange of data among financial institutions, law enforcement agencies, and banks.
Protecting privacy with the Chakshu app
In the past nine months, he said, 17.5 lakh mobile numbers that were utilized only once, particularly for fraudulent activities, have been blocked. Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications, lauded the endeavours of the Department of Technology (DoT), which, according to him, has effectively concluded several initiatives to combat cyber-security threats. He stated that numerous similar initiatives are currently in progress to combat new and emerging forms of fraud.
The two new portals, according to Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal, are an additional measure taken to combat cyber security threats to the digital assets of every citizen. He stated that the new tools will aid in preventing the misuse of the communications system and fraudulent activities.
