Vistara's last flight will take off on Monday, November 11th, under its own brand identity. Following that, its operations will be merged with Air India, reducing the number of full-service carriers in the Indian aviation space from five to one over 17 years.

With this merger, Singapore Airlines will earn a 25.1 % stake in Air India, signalling the end of Vistara. This occurrence has sparked emotional responses from netizens, with many expressing their heartfelt reactions over social media posts.

Over a span of last 10 years, Vistara marked the only full-service carrier. Following the union of full-service carrier (FSC) Indian Airlines with Air India in 2007, five FSCs were introduced in the Indian air space. Kingfisher and Air Sahara failed to retain their positions while Vistara rose high in the Indian skies in January 2015. While Kingfisher did take off in 2012, Air Sahara acquired by Jet Airways met its end following the termination of Jet Airways in 2019.

Leadership rearrangements

Ahead of the Vistara-Air India union, Air India announced major leadership rearrangements.

Chief Executive Officer of Vistara, Vinon Kannan, currently serving as the role of Chief Integration Officer for the full-service airlines' merger will continue holding his position post the union. He will act as a member of the Management Committee and directly report to Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India.

Chief Commercial Officer of Vistara, Deepak Rajawat will be assigned the role of Chief Financial Officer at Air India Express, where he will report to CEO Aloke Singh.

Disclosing these realignments, Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD, Air India, remarked, "Over the past two years the four Tata airlines have worked hard to prepare for and execute one of the most complex mergers in aviation history, consolidating from four airlines to two in the context of dramatic growth and wholesale transformation. As we now approach the end of that process, we are delighted to formalise a Group leadership comprising colleagues from all four antecedent airlines to drive the next phase of our journey."

"I would also like to acknowledge those who, whether retiring or taking up other roles within the Tata group, have contributed so significantly not just to the consolidation process but, over many years, to the DNA of what is now the new Air India," he added.
