Visakhapatnam: The protest by the workers of Adani Gangavaram Port continued for the second day on Sunday following a demand for implementation of promises made for wage revision and other issues.
District Collector A Mallikarjuna held a meeting with the worker representatives and the management on Saturday and asked the company to honour the commitments. CPI (M) corporator and honorary president of Gangavaram Port Workers’ Union B Ganga Rao alleged that though the management gave a promise for recruitment of eligible persons from displaced families, it has not kept it. He said wage revision is also not taking place for a long time though the company is earning a lot of profits.
He told Bizz Buzz that the employees taken on work for various works under Gangavaram Port Services and Gangavaram Port Limited are being given different wages and benefits with the monthly wages in the range of Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000. Rao said the management is earning huge profits year after year though the allocation towards wages compared to it is very meagre.
