The father of the 31-year-old Kolkata rape and murder victim has addressed the circulation of purported audio clips, which recorded his initial three conversations with a staff member from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
As soon as the clips surfaced online, they went viral quickly, prompting the father to respond. The father had refused to accept responsibility for the leaks.
"We have no idea how or where these conversations were leaked. We cannot be held accountable for this," he said speaking to ANI.
When questioned about whether the voice in the clips was his, the father responded, “You may think so, but I don’t see it that way. This won’t impact the investigation.
Audio clips:
In the clips that surfaced on social media, a woman identifies herself as the assistant superintendent of the hospital and is heard notifying the victim’s parents about their daughter’s “suicide.” The recordings are believed to capture the first three conversations between the victim's parent and a hospital representative after the trainee doctor’s body was found on August 9. However, the authenticity of these clips couldn’t be verified.
In the first recording, the caller informed the victim’s father that his daughter was very ill and had been admitted to the hospital and the caller asked her to come quickly.
When the father asked what had happened, the woman said that she was unwell and doctors would explain the details about her daughter.
She further said that they have found father’s number, so we’ve called you.
In the call, the father questioned whether her daughter’s condition was serious, to which the caller answered, “Yes, she’s in a very serious condition. Please come quickly.”
This call reportedly lasted a minute and 11 seconds.
Five minutes later, a second call came most probably from the same woman, who said, “Her condition is extremely critical. Please come as soon as possible.”
When the father inquired about the caller’s identity, she responded, “I am the assistant superintendent, not a doctor. We’ve taken your daughter to the emergency ward. You need to come quickly and speak with us.”
In the backdrop, a panicked mother can be heard asking, “What could have happened to her? She was on duty.” The woman reiterated, “Please come as soon as you can.” This call lasted about 46 seconds.
The third and final call delivered the devastating news of the victim’s death, albeit in a fragmented manner.
“Please listen… we’ve been trying to tell you… your daughter… might have… taken her own life… or she may have passed away. The police are here, and so are we. We need you to come quickly,” the same voice announced. This call lasted for 28 seconds.
