Explained: What are the Goods Set to Become Expensive After Trump’s New Tariff

The U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed sweeping tariffs that levies a minimum 10% duty on nearly all goods entering the US, which affects 180 countries.
India faces a 26% duty on all exports made to the U.S. Washington. The Trump administration defended the tariffs as “reciprocal,” highlighting what it sees as unfair barriers to American products entering India. As per the officials, Indian vehicles faces up to 2.5% tariff on US, while Americans are facing taxes up to 70%. Similarly, Indian rice and apples enjoy minimal tariffs in the US compared to the steep duties imposed by India on their American counterparts.
Indian jewellery as well as gems exports are set to become expensive. Moreover, rising gold prices can also put pressure on this sector, trade analysts said.
Here’s a look at the things which could become expensive in US
1. Indian exports including textiles, engineering goods, electronics, and seafood can come under intense pressure. Ajay Bagga, a veteran market analyst said that exports in these sectors are likely to feel the immediate financial impact of the tariff hike.
2. Following Trump’s imposition of 46% duty on goods from Vietnam, the cost of manufacturing sneakers for brands like Nike and Adidas—both of which heavily rely on Vietnamese production lines—is expected to rise sharply. Close to 50% of Nike shoes and one-third of Adidas products are made in Vietnam, Bloomberg said.
3. Apple is also going through a tough phase as the company’s major product lines—including iPhones, AirPods, iPads, and MacBooks—are manufactured in countries facing new US tariffs.
4. Cars, heavy machinery, and appliances are set to become more expensive for US consumers due to new tariffs on imported vehicles, parts, steel, and aluminnium.
