Visakhapatnam: Tremendous enthusiasm marked the celebration of the world famous Rath Yarta with scores of devotees pulling tastefully-decorated chariots. The annual festival of Lord Jagannath and siblings in the chariots to their aunt's house (Gundicha Ghar) draws huge crowds from all communities world-wide. In Visakhapatnam the festival was organised by RINL Utkal Sanskritika Samaj, temple committe of Hindustan Shipyard, Jagannathaswamy temple of Old Town and ISKCON at various locations. At the Rath Yatra conducted by Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj, a premer socio-cultural organisation in the city, religious fervour and gaiety was marked during pulling of the chariot from its temple premises at Dasapalla Hills near All India Radio to the Gundicha Ghar on beach road. The deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra were taken from sanctum sanctorum of the temple to the colourfully decorated chariot in a ritual called Pahandi Bije. President of Samaj J.K. Nayak, donning the role of king swept the platform of the chariot signifying that there is no difference between a powerful man and an aam aadmi. The deities will be worshipped at the Gundicha temple till July 15.
